SCA Leadership Camp

BY Alexandra Dennis

The Student Christian Association (SCA) Committees of Riebeek College and Muir College embarked on a leadership camp at Leaders in Life Camp in Addo, which took place from 17-19 January.
The girls started off their weekend well with the Riebeek SCA committee winning 2nd place for the Teambuilding afternoon on Friday, 17 January 2020.
Upon arrival, the committees were given time to settle into their tents and were split into four groups. These 4 groups were given time to come up with a team name, a war cry, decorate a flag and assemble a pole for the flag. Thereafter, a potjiekos competition took place, which played a big part in filling each boy and girl’s tummy for dinner.
Every camper can proudly say that they completed an obstacle course, went canoeing and played various team games. The guest speaker, Buhle Gayika and his team Aphiwe Zinto and Lwando Mhluzi, blessed everyone with a word of encouragement and an amazing evening of praise and worship.
“Being able to be vulnerable and worship alongside my SCA family was a moment I’ll truly cherish,” says Elihle Jantjies.
“Even though this was the last SCA camp for us matrics, I can proudly say that it was one for the books! The sisterhood within this committee is definitely going to extend far beyond 2020," says Tarryn Barry.
Alexandra Dennis and Avery-Leigh Kayster, as head and deputy of SCA believe that after this camp, the committee can only go from strength to strength.
Thank you to Mr Jonas (Muir), Mrs Jonas, Miss S. du Preez and Mr de Beer for accompanying the boys and girls and for organising such an amazing weekend. Both committees are excited for the fresh ideas and events planned at camp to materialise.
SCA sessions will commence on Thursday, 23 January 2020 in the student centre at first break. All grade 8-12s are welcome.
