interact biscuits for the elderly

BY Administrator

Riebeek College Girls’ High School’s Interact Club undertook a final act of kindness in our Mandela100@Riebeek100+ acts of kindness campaign when they spent a portion of their holiday baking biscuits, packaging the biscuits as gifts and handing out to the elderly.  The Christmas spirit of giving saw the girls sacrificing their time for a good cause and they loved the time they spent with the elderly.  Mrs Kieran Stear, principal of Riebeek College, said: “We have had a great year of giving at Riebeek and our  Mandela100@Riebeek100+ acts of kindness campaign was an unparalleled success. We had aimed for 100 acts to commemorate the centenary of Madiba’s birth and then adapted our target to be 167 representing the centenary and his 67 years of service.  We received well over the 167 and eventually had to give up the count.  I am so proud of the Riebeek family who participated in car washes, spoiling our support team of ground staff workers, collections, helping others, reaching out to those in need, reading to young children and showing empathy and compassion. Riebeek is a special place with a great spirit. In a world where one can choose to be anything, at  Riebeek we choose to be kind, compassionate, generous, respectful, honest and inclusive. The greatest gift that Riebeek gives us is a sense of belonging and the knowledge that each one of us can make a difference in the world.”
Chaneal Labercensie, Head of Interact, said: “ During the holidays, Riebeek’s Interact girls baked over 800 biscuits and went to school to package them as gifts for the elderly. The girls felt like spreading Christmas cheer and festivity through this distribution and graciously handed them out at one of the local old age homes. The girls and the liason teacher, Miss du Preez, thoroughly enjoyed this event and can’t wait to do it again next year.”
