A Hockey Farewell to the Matrics
August 24, 2015 | BY Miss K. PotgieterThe end of the U/18 season sadly marks the time to say goodbye to the matrics of 2015. Playing your last high school hockey match is always a bitter-sweet affair. Over the last two weekends the 1st and 2nd teams said a fond goodbye to 7 very special ladies.
Tazmyn van der Mescht (capt), Yolanda Mantewu, Zethu Phongoma, Reiley van Heerden and Lisa Relling took their final bow on Saturday 15 August. These players have been the cornerstones of the 2nd Team for last 2 years and their spirit, enthusiasm and dependability will be hard to match in seasons to come.
Michaela Balie, Lindsay McFarlane and Khanyisile Williams leave gigantic gaps to fill, not just on the field, but in our hearts as well. As captain and vice- captain, Michaela and Lindsay are leaving behind a legacy. You have always led by example and were the glue of the 1st team for the last 3 years. Khanyisile’s rocket feet and even faster wit was second to none. Her easy smile and infectious laughter made many fitness sessions easier to bare.
Thank you all for your service to the game and for being such ambassadors for your school on the hockey field. You WILL be missed.
