Yolanda Mni, Kauthar Ravat, Zurisana Ntshangase, Zethu Phongoma, Yolanda Mantewu, Lesedi Adams, Khanyisile Williams, Olonathando Dlutu and Pumela Jikani attended The NMMU Accounting Winter School powered by Deloitte. The programme started on Monday 29 June and ended on Friday 3 July. Each day they enjoyed a lecture based on a section of their matric syllabus, presented by one of NMMU's brilliant accounting lecturers. They then enjoyed a break which they spent having fun and exploring the campus as well as being chased by a monkey or two. After their break they would move off to their tutorials facilitated by 2nd or 3rd year accounting students where they'd work through questions based on the day's lecture topic. In between all of this fun and learning they received motivational speeches and amazing life advice from NMMU students, staff as well as from the Deloitte team. They were also privileged enough to be part of NMMU's 10th birthday celebrations as well as to have Mr Willem van der Post, a partner at Deloitte Johannesburg, address them. He explained how technology is developing and how it is and will be taking over business as well as our day to day lives and how we should prepare for and embrace these technological developments. These ladies clearly put all the knowledge they had aquired from the week to good use as Zurisana Ntshangase won a prize for being the most enthusiastic and engaging the most in her tutorial group, Khanyisile Williams received a R250 Greenacres voucher for showing the greatest improvement and Yolanda Mni who won a R1000 Greenacres voucher for placing 2nd over all. The girls would like to express their gratitude to the NMMU Accounting staff and tutors, Deloitte and their staff as well as Mrs du Plessis entering them into the programme.
