BY Harmony at the Choir Camp

Choir Camp was, yet again, an amazing experience. It was held at the Sumcay camp grounds during the weekend of 11 to 13 March. It was a first for some, while at the same time being a last for others (our matrics).

Even though our choir has a new conductor, Miss Mintoor (Miss CJ to others), that didn’t change the aim and purpose of our weekend: learning new songs, perfecting old and familiar ones, and having fun throughout.

The first day of hard work went down very well with the girls as everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Our Friday night ended with a bang when the matrics gave us the task of preparing a short performance for the talent show. This seems like an easy thing to do, but not when you’re told what to do and you’re given 5 minutes to prepare.

Saturday was equally, if not more exhausting than Friday, but nonetheless, the girls went through the day with great spirit and enthusiasm, enjoying the free time and rest periods given in-between each practise session. A very productive day was ended off with a social session between Miss Mintoor and the grades 10-12 in which the girls each told Miss Mintoor a bit about each of themselves, allowing Miss Mintoor to get to know her choir girls better. A small dorm party took place that night in Room 6. It had everything a good party needs: music, dancing and food. The party was short-lived due to technical difficulties with the speaker, but it was still a great way for the girls to blow off steam after a hard day’s work. The matrics ended their night in a very special way by taking their last ever dip in the Sumcay pool.

The choir started their Sunday off with a short spiritual devotional session led by the matrics before they were able to fit in one last practise session, because they wanted camp to end on a high note (pun intended).

Thanks and appreciation go out to Miss Mintoor, Mr Jonas, Mrs Mapoma and Mrs Elie for making Choir Camp 2016 one to remember.
