Welcome, Mrs Weidemann

Hanel Weidemann.
On a bitterly cold morning on 26 July, the start of Term 3 and the start of a return to uniform on a daily basis, a ray of sunshine was evident. Mrs Hanel Weidemann kicked off her appointment as a senior school Afrikaans teacher, working with Miss Oliphant, with morning screening duty. Right away, it felt like she had always been here!
Mrs Weidemann studied at NMU, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Afrikaans, Dutch and French. After completing her undergraduate degree, she spent seven months teaching English in Armentières, France. She returned to complete Honours and Masters degrees at NMU, specialising in linguistics and lexicography.
She has taught at Muir College (2015-2020) and was a substitute teacher at Strelitzia in 2020, followed by a stint at Union High School (2020-2021) and an Online English facilitator from 2018-2020.
Mrs Weidemann is happily married and feels privileged to have the love and support of both her parents, a sister and a granny, whom I=she loves dearly.
Her hobbies include spending time with loved ones, going to the beach, reading a good book and traveling. She rates Egypt as her favourite tourist destination.
On her first impressions of Riebeek, she wrote, “” The girls are extremely well behaved and hard working. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I hope to have many happy years at Riebeek.”
She lives by the quote, “On ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur; l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux" from the book Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It roughly translates to: One sees clearly only with the heart. The most important things are invisible to the eye.
