Riebeek Choir Does It Again!

BY Administrator

The Riebeek College Girls’ High School Senior Choir achieved cum laude and scooped all the awards in their category at the National ATKV Choir Competition Final held in Pretoria on 28 July 2011.

Riebeek’s Senior Choir won the overall award for Best Choir when they were the only high school to achieve cum laude status of over 90%. They also won awards for the Best Performance of an African Song, Best Performance of a Prescribed Piece, and Best High School Choir: Non-Afrikaans First Language More Experienced.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the exceptional results that our Senior Choir has achieved. Riebeek College Girls’ High School strives to develop girls in totality and this public achievement is a true indication of this standard which is prevalent at our school,” said Mrs Marilyn Woods, Principal of Riebeek College Girls’ High School.

This is the second consecutive year that Riebeek’s Senior Choir has come home with all the awards in their category.

Mrs Woods said that as they were entered into the more experienced choir category, she commended them on their competency to deliver a superb performance which was of a highly technical and intricately difficult nature.

“The choir's discipline was excellent and it showed in their performance! It was a pleasure to work with the Riebeek Choir. The audience enjoyed their whole performance, said Mr Johan Esterhuizen, ATKV Project Organiser"

In total 159 choirs participated in the ATKV Applous streekfees. The Riebeek Senior Choir, consisting of 67 learners, was the only choir from the Eastern Cape to make it through to the Final in the Non-Afrikaans More Experienced Category.

Riebeek competed with Queens College Boys’ High School from Queenstown, St. Michael’s School for Girls from Bloemfontein; Michaelhouse from Kwa-Zulu Natal and Pretoria Boys’ High School, to name a few.
